Facebook... becoming a fan
It's kind of funny. I've been slow to adapt to the wave of social media, eschewing the 'online' community in favor of in-person, or at least relationship-based interaction.
In the past few months however, I've established an Hpowermarketing identity on Twitter and now have several thousand people following me, as well as being listed on 10 or so lists. Please don't misunderstand this as bragging, pride or vanity. I'm not selling anything online; the only things I post are articles of interest to me and what I hope will help improve people's lives... granting them peace, patience, and a sense of belonging.
I think perhaps our world is "so" connected that we're actually far more disconnected than we care to admit. We're technologically advanced hermits. Myself included, to some degree. I told my CPA yesterday, that I prefer to communicate by email... while he prefers to communicate on the phone. He deferred to my preference only because he agreed that it was wise for us to have a written record of the things we discuss. I used to LOVE to talk on the phone, but these days I'm less enamored of it. I'm not sure why, it's just doesn't hold the draw for me it once did.
As social media becomes more and more relevant (I could care less about prevelance... being prevelant and being relevant are two COMPLETELY different things that I enjoy making the distinction between) I've decided to start an HPM Facebook page. I guess over time, I'll learn how to use it as both a tool of the company, and a means for remaining connected, in an entirely different manner with staff, clients, media partners and fans.
